Deborah Bowyer, Director of Finance, Bedford, NS

Debbie Bowyer"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life." - Proverbs 13:12

Over the years I've worked my way through many jobs, teaching myself whatever was necessary along the way. I stepped away from the marketplace for six years to serve as a primary caregiver for my ageing mother-in-law and then father. After they both passed away, I was in the unique position to start a new career...

― Noam Chomsky

I believe that all humans carry within them a resiliency and innate courage that allows them not only to heal but also to change and grow throughout ...

The phrase “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” from Nelson Mandela, says it all for me in counselling, as the ability for people to believe in themselves can sometimes be a very difficult thing to do. I believe that I can help people to move forward through; (a) the use of valid instruments that show them where they are actually at, and (b) through my belief in them that they can move forward.

Considering this, my approach...

"I'm thankful for my struggle because, without it, I wouldn't have stumbled upon my strength." Alexandra Elle

My personal story has included challenges that many people face. I’ve been blessed and inspired by supportive people and the outlook, that these adversities give me the opportunity to find my own strength, my own voice, and a chance to make my life that, which I desire it to be. I strive to continue to have the courage and humility to always learn, develop, strengthen myself and hopefully help support others in their journey as well.

I have a special interest in....

“Difficulties come when you don't pay attention to life's whisper. Life always whispers to you first, but if you ignore the whisper, sooner or later you'll get a scream” Oprah Winfrey

Mike Stephan, Registrar, Pitt Meadows, BC

After serving for three years on the board of directors Mike joined the staff of ACCT and took on the newly created position of Registrar in May 2018.

Mike has a Degree in Business Administration and brings experience in business development, strategic planning and marketing. He values Creativity and Collaboration and is extremely passionate about being involved with teams that are vision oriented. ACCT also shares these values which made his decision to be part of this organization an easy one. Mike looks forward to meeting you all and being involved with such a great group of visionaries.

Sarah Hughes, Secretary & Operations Manager, Osoyoos, BC

After working with ACCT for a year as our Administrative/IT Assistant Sarah was promoted to the position of Operations Manager, Sarah took over the position of Secretary to the Board after the AGM in September 2015.

Sarah has many years of experience in office administration, office management and executive assistance, most recently as Executive Assistant for Tourism Vancouver...... a not for profit, membership-based organization.   She made the decision in April 2014 to quit the rat race and find a part-time telecommuting position utilizing her familiarity in all areas of administration and her keen interest in information technology, providing her with the perfect life-balance she was seeking.

Sarah and her husband Len moved to the beautiful town of Osoyoos in the South Okanagan in July 2016, they have two sons, a “soon to be” daughter-in-law and an 11-year-old grandson, Owen.

Her other interests include curling, learning to play golf and many forms of arts and crafts.  Sarah also volunteers in her community at local events.

Sarah is a great addition to the ACCT family and is very happy to be working with all of us.

Shannon Watson, Coordinator of Membership and Administration, Vancouver, BC

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” Ryunosuke Satoro

It is my hope that I can combine my over 15 years of administrative and project management experience along with my counselling knowledge in order to serve the ACCT community and welcome new members to the association.

As a counsellor, my primary areas of special interest were grief, trauma and spiritual issues and my dream is to work alongside First Nations peoples.

In my personal life, I enjoy photography – mostly flowers and landscapes – and doing creative things like card and jewellery making.  I am originally from the Kootenay region of interior BC and its influence means that I love being in nature –especially by the water. I love to travel although I haven’t done it for a while. Mostly, I love being with the people close to me.
