Liability Insurance Applications
We are pleased to offer ACCT Members two options for liability insurance.
Current professional liability insurance is mandatory to keep your professional membership in good-standing with ACCT.
For those new members who already have professional liability insurance, it is perfectly acceptable to use the current insurance until it expires at which time members are encouraged to renew under one of the ACCT group programs.
For counsellors with International and US-based clients, please consult your provider for any special requirements. Your clients need to know that all suits against the therapist will be filed under Canadian law and will be brought back to Canada.
As a professional counsellor/therapist you are liable for your services, whether you are acting as a volunteer, providing pro bono services, or charging for your services. Professional liability insurance provides invaluable protection to you and to your clients.
Please note: Student members do not qualify for liability insurance under the ACCT group plan but you are welcome to contact them to ask for a quote if you do require insurance before you obtain a designation.
Important: Newly approved members have six weeks after approval of membership to upload proof of liability insurance. Proof of insurance can be uploaded here. Each year you are not required to upload evidence of insurance, but you must attest to having liability insurance when submitting your CCD Report at renewal. Please ensure you keep a copy in your records in case of an audit or a claim.
