how to meet acct's professional standards 

To ensure each applicant meets our professional standards, you’ll be asked to submit:

  • A counselling diploma from an approved training program
  • Official transcripts
  • A current Criminal Record Check (including a vulnerable sector search)
  • An up-to-date resume
  • Proof of professional liability insurance (or a letter of intent)
  • Two professional counselling references or letters of recommendation


Each designation has its own specific criteria—please refer to the application form that matches your experience and training.

WHAT Counts as DCC?

Direct Client Contact (DCC) includes any formal psychotherapeutic engagement with a client—whether face-to-face or via phone, video, or other secure formats. Clients may be individuals, couples, families, or groups.

A standard 50-minute session qualifies as one hour of DCC. You can read the full DCC definition.

FEE INFORMATION

At ACCT, we believe clarity matters-especially when it comes to fees. Here's what you need to know before applying:

1. Membership Share – $100.00

This one-time fee represents your share in our cooperative.
 It’s refundable upon request if you end your membership with us.
 Note: Students are considered non-voting participants and are not required to pay this fee.

2. Application Administration Fee – $150.00

This is a non-refundable fee that covers the processing and review of your application.

3. Annual Professional Fee

This is your yearly membership fee which is renewed annually on your anniversary of approval date. This fee is non-refundable:
