SUPERVISION for Members

WHY SUPERVISION?

As a self-regulating professional counselling association, one of ACCT’s core values is supporting counsellors in maintaining and developing their competency throughout their entire professional careers. We are committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with counsellors affiliated with other professional associations by aligning with government regulations, industry trends, and best practices across Canada.

Supervision provides a structured framework within which a counsellor can engage in accountability, reflect on their clinical practice, and receive meaningful feedback and guidance. Regular, ongoing supervision supports high-quality client care, ethical and effective practice, professional development, and sustainable self-care. It also contributes to long-term career growth and resilience in the profession.

Supervision is a mandatory requirement for all ACCT members. Our Supervision Committee has developed updated Supervision Guidelines in 2025 which outline supervision expectations, eligibility criteria, and documentation requirements. Members are required to review this document in detail to ensure they remain in good standing with ACCT.

PLEASE REVIEW UPDATED CONSULTATIVE SUPERVISION GUIDELINES

The Supervision Committee of ACCT has worked diligently throughout 2025 to update ACCT’s supervision requirements to ensure they align with emerging regulatory standards and best practices, particularly in light of upcoming regulation. We encourage all members to familiarize themselves with these updates and to visit this webpage regularly for ongoing information and announcements.

2026 UPDATES TO ACCT RCS RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS
All ACCT Registered Counselling supervisors (RCS) are now required to complete:

  • 10 hours Supervisor-specific Professional Development training
  • 10 hours Supervision for the Supervisor
  • The above two requirements should be fulfilled over a three-year period.

Every three years, an RCS must complete at least these 20 hours of supervisor specific training and development. This requirement has been in effect since May 2025.
Please note your PD and supervisor specific training activities with your supervisor each year.

We will begin monitoring this activity on your RCS renewal application in one year, starting June 1, 2026.

MTC are not recognized as supervisors. If you are an MTC currently providing supervision to counsellors, please apply for full RCS designation immediately to maintain your eligibility as an ACCT Supervisor.

We appreciate your commitment to professional excellence and ongoing learning as part of our cooperative community.
