ACCT PEER COMMUNITY SERIES

Friday Afternoon Keynote Address and PD Session

"Know Thy Self" - Duane and Catherine O'Kane

Self-knowledge is essential to the process of safe and effective psychotherapy. Focusing on the concept of “self as an instrument”, this session will cover how self-awareness can be used to build rapport and foster the growth of your client. You cannot lead your client into territory you have not entered. The more deeply you connect to your own emotional experience, using your real time responses with your client, the greater the potential for positive change.

Saturday Afternoon Concurrent Sessions

You must choose one:

Professional Development III A
Somatic Awareness – Shoshana Allice

How integrating body wisdom into your practice can serve both you and your clients:  Somatic Awareness is essentially becoming aware of the ‘experience of the body, from within.’ This 90 minute session will give participants a brief introduction to the principles of somatic awareness and how to apply them both in their counselling practice and for their own self-care. We will explore how to attune to and regulate both our own nervous system and the nervous system of our clients, and why that is so valuable. Based on the most current neuro-science research, this workshop will be both practical and fun. Please come prepared to move your body and refrain from wearing any scented products.

Meet your presenter:

Shoshana Allice is a Relational Somatic Therapist and Body-Centered Coach. She has been doing coaching and counselling work for over 10 years, with a focus on somatic awareness for the past five years. She holds a Master’s degree in Human Systems Intervention, is an ICF accredited coach and is in the process of finalizing her credential with ACCT. She has been actively involved in ACCT with the board and the membership committee since she joined last year.
