Get Listed in the Counsellor Directory

Once you’ve uploaded your proof of insurance (not required for Student Associates), you can register in the ACCT Counsellor Directory, our public-facing platform that helps clients find you. Step-by-step instructions are in the Member Area.

MEMBER STANDING

Being in good standing with ACCT means that a member is meeting all professional, ethical, and administrative requirements of their membership. This status confirms that the member is entitled to hold and use their ACCT designation and is practising in alignment with ACCT standards.

Membership and renewal
A member in good standing has an active and current membership. All required renewal, late, or administrative fees have been paid, and the membership has not lapsed, been suspended, or been cancelled. Annual renewal has been completed by the required deadlines.

Continuing competency and supervision
Good standing requires submission of a Continuing Competency Development (CCD) Report each year. This report demonstrates ongoing competency across professional development, clinical supervision, and self-care. Required supervision hours have been completed and are appropriately documented.

Ethical and professional conduct
Members in good standing practise in accordance with the ACCT Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. There are no unresolved ethics matters, restrictions, or conditions affecting the member’s designation, and any ethics-related requirements set by ACCT have been met.

Use of designation and practice requirements
The member uses their correct ACCT designation and represents it accurately in all professional, marketing, and public communications. Where applicable, professional liability insurance is current and on file, and all practice requirements related to the member’s designation are being met.

What this means in practice
A member in good standing may use their ACCT designation, is listed as active in the public directory where applicable, and is eligible for renewal, voting rights, committee participation, and other member benefits. Falling out of good standing most often occurs due to missed renewal deadlines, unpaid fees, incomplete CCD or supervision requirements, inaccurate use of designation, missing EOI, or outstanding ethical or administrative matters.

Annual renewal

At ACCT, we believe that great counsellors never stop growing.

That’s why ongoing supervision and professional development are mandatory for all members. Each year, as part of the renewal process, you’ll be asked to pay your professional fee and submit a record of your continued learning—a minimum of 10 hours of professional development and dedicated self-care hours that support your resilience and well-being. This isn’t just about compliance—it’s about staying connected, supported, and equipped to do the deep, meaningful work of counselling.
