TOWN HALL UPDATES

Message from Lena Orlova, President of ACCT

Hello Members!

We hosted our second ACCT Townhall on May 5, 2022. We are grateful to all who attended and offered their time to meet with the Board and our Executive Director, Byron Miki.

Our anchoring theme for the Townhall was community engagement. There are a couple of reasons for this. In this age of tele-communications, many are feeling disengaged by digital platforms. We are coming out of two years of COVID-related limits on in-person events and social interactions.

As well, the nature of our work requires us often to work in silo and be comfortable with being on our own. All these variables contribute to a growing sense of disconnection from our communities, despite the fact that most of us cognitively “know” that counsellors who feel tethered to their counselling communities fair better in difficult times. Arguably, we’re not the only organization who is grappling with how to tune into our communities again.

Please help us serve you better in this respect by answering the following questions:

  • What makes you feel engaged or involved in your counselling community?

  • Have you ever considered joining a committee or volunteering your time with ACCT? If so, what was your motivation?

  • Have you ever declined the opportunity to volunteer with ACCT? If so, how come? What barriers come up for you when you think about attending events or ACCT member activities? What can we do to address these barriers?

  • Do you have experience (professional or lived) in community engagement and if so, where do you think ACCT could do better on this? What would you like to see from us?

A Facebook thread is welcome, but please keep your comments to a concise, relevant, and constructive natureIt is not our intent to incite a debate or to dig into problems within ACCT.

Alternatively, if you are wanting to speak to a staff member or Board member about your ideas instead, or to write an email, please contact us at [email protected]

Thank you!

Kind regards,
Lena Orlova, RTC

Come take a peek at how to help those who are gender diverse or LGBTQ2SIA+ and there will be time for questions at the end.

Membership Renewals

TIME TO RENEW?
As your annual renewal time approaches, you might find yourself scrambling to complete the Professional Development (PD) hours and Supervision hours.

We strongly suggest you plan ahead for the year once you have renewed. This means sourcing appropriate PD hours based on your Continuous Competency Development Plan (CCPD), more of which can be found here

It can be helpful to schedule your supervision sessions throughout the year, so you can get the most out of speaking to your Supervisor regarding how your client sessions are going. Supervision provides a framework within which a counsellor can offer an accounting, reflect on performance and receive feedback and or guidance.

Regular ongoing supervision is important for enhancing the quality of service you offer, and it can be beneficial for improved client care, effective self-care and career development.

More about Supervision can be found here.

A current list of ACCT Registered Counselling Supervisors (RCS) can be found here.
